The Golden Gate Print version
erusalem of the Eight Gates is surrounding by rocky mountains, ancient walls, narrow turrets, towers and gleaming domes. Intricate and mysterious, its streets weave a labyrinth through crowded dwellings whose kissing rooftops conceal the skies over the city. Many believe that the gate to heaven is situated above Jerusalem.

Luke 2:46-48
Three days later, they found him in the Temple, sitting among the doctors, listening to them, and asking them questions; and all those who heard him were astounded at his intelligence and his replies. They were overcome when they saw him, and his mother said to him, 'My child, why have you done this to us? See how worried your father and I have been, looking for you.’

Mark 11:15-18
So they reached Jerusalem and he went into the Temple and began driving out those who were selling and buying there; he upset the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those who were selling pigeons. Nor would he allow anyone to carry anything through the Temple. And he taught them and said, ‘Does not scripture say: My house will be called a house of prayer for all the peoples? But you have turned it into a robber’s den.’ Reference also Matthew 21:12-13, Luke 19:45-48, John 2:13-17

Mark 13:1-2
As he was leaving the Temple one of his disciples said to him, ‘Look at the size of those stones, Master! Look at the size of those buildings!’ And Jesus said to him, ‘You see these great buildings? Not a single stone will be left on another: everything will be destroyed.’ Reference also Matthew 24:1-2, Luke 21:5-6

Matthew 4:5-8
The devil then took him to the holy city and made him stand on the parapet of the Temple. ‘If you are the Son of God,’ he said, ‘throw yourself down; for scripture says: He will put you in his angels’ charge, and they will support you on their hands in case you hurt your foot against a stone.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Scripture also says: You must not put the Lord your God to the test.' Next, taking him to a very high mountain, the devil showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. Reference also Luke 4:9-13

he Golden Gate, whose southern section is known as the Gate of Mercy and northern section as the Gate of Repentance, was the only gate situated in the eastern wall of the Temple during the Second Temple period. This ornate and domed gate is believed to be the passageway through which Jesus made his triumphant entry into Jerusalem on the Sunday before Passover. To this day, the procession passes near this gate on Palm Sunday .

John 12:12-13
The next day the crowds who had come up for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. They took branches of palm and went out to meet him, shouting, ‘Hosanna! Blessings on the King of Israel, who comes in the name of the Lord.’
